Sam Struempler - Secretary
As a teacher with the Anchorage School District, I had the privilege of knowing Katie as one of her fortunate teachers. I say “fortunate” because Katie was one of those young people any teacher would absolutely love to have in the classroom. There was a kindness and thoughtfulness about her that other students couldn’t help but recognize and be drawn toward. True to her nature, Katie had the BEST friends and was a friend to many.
My connection with Katie was less frequent as she went on from my teaching sphere, but as she bravely faced her health realities - it was clear that her sense of compassion and caring never faltered. Katie’s strength for her family, friends and others facing life crises was nothing short of miraculous.
When the opportunity presented itself to join the Katie’s Handprint team I, of course, jumped all over it! Although I’m still a “newby” Board member, it took no time at all to appreciate the incredible good being done for families facing the most difficult of challenges…childhood cancer.
It’s an honor to be a part of Katie’s Handprint and hope to contribute all that I can.
